Balanced Beef Recipe

We would recommend varying the protein content that your dog eats in order to maximise the different fats and amino acids consumed. However, for some dogs, if beef is their preference or perhaps they can only tolerate beef due to a skin or gut diagnosis, this recipe could be fed for a longer period of time as a meal plan.
Please do seek the advice of an APNC registered canine nutritionist for more support if your dog needs it.
➡️ Place a 400gm TFD Beef Mince Chub (which includes beef mince, heart and the appropriate volume of liver) into a lidded oven dish.
➡️ Add a splash of water to avoid it sticking to the dish when cooking.
➡️ Cook on a low temperature until the meat is coloured all the way through. In a good oven this can take only 10mins, so keep an eye on it, stir if needed to check the colour.
The meat does not need to be as heavily cooked as we humans would like to eat it.
The exact time and temperature will depend on your individual oven.
➡️ Cool
➡️ Add wholefoods (see below)
➡️ Mix
➡️ and then serve!
Choose one from each of the wholefood lists below:
🐟 An Omega 3 Option 🐟
1 teaspoon of Algae or Fish oil provide additional omega 3 should your dog need this. Our Beef mince is grass fed and so is naturally more abundant in omega 3 fatty acids.
or
A few Sardines, in spring water – avoid the mustard, tomato or brine versions.
Mackerel or pilchards can be substituted.
🦴 A Mineral Complex Option 🦴
Bone Meal
Some of these carry dosages, if not then 8gm of bone meal per 400gm food as fed hits the target Calcium:Phosphorus ratio for all life stages.
Almost all Bone Meals found are created with Beef bone, so it can be nice to find another meat type here on some days.
Seaweed Calcium
Lithothamnion Calcareum can also hit the target Calcium:Phosphorus ratio for all life stages. 4gm of seaweed calcium per 400gm of food
Antler Powder
1-5kg = ¼ teaspoon
6-10kg = ½ teaspoon
11-25kg = ¾ teaspoon
26-35kg = 1 teaspoon
36kg+ = 1¼ teaspoon.
(these should be level teaspoon measures)
🌾 Wheatgrass Powder 🌾
Dose based on the size of your dog:
Large over 25kg = 2 teaspoons per day
Medium to Large dogs = 1 teaspoon per day (can be split into two meals)
Small dogs 8kg and under = ½ teaspoon a day
(these can be heaped teaspoons)
Note: Please adjust if your dog will eat a little more, then do add a little more. Wheatgrass is a superfood that detoxifies and is anti-yeast too. It can be a great support to many dogs in this polluted world. For some dogs it is just too green to add more than the amounts above J.
🌱 Hemp Seed Oil 🌱
One teaspoon of cold pressed Hemp Seed Oil balances the compounds found in Beef.
🍖 Bone Broth 🍖
This is optional, however we highly advise adding it to support your dog’s digestion, microbiome, joints and just about every other aspect. Plus, they adore it!
Just slosh it on! It is a wholefood not a medicine, so even if they lapped up the entire 500ml pouch it would be ok.
Doesn’t my dog need Vegetables?
The Wheatgrass covers all plant nutrition & extra vitamins.
It could be useful and fun to feed sprigs of broccoli sprouts or alfalfa sprouts on some days.
But no vegetables are needed for nutrition purposes.
Sweet potato, Broccoli or other green veg of your choice could bulk this out to a 500gm meal, only if this is your preference.
We do not advocate cooking on a hob, although if a little water is added this can work. We definitely do not recommend frying the mince in a pan as the frying heat can reach temperatures as high as some processed food cooking methods.
